This month, I am participating in the Arc'teryx Run Steady Challenge, a Strava-based running event in which participants must complete 40 miles within 30 days.
Arc'teryx Run Steady Challenge: Context
The Arc'teryx Run Steady Challenge is part of Strava’s initiative to motivate athletes through structured goals. Arc'teryx sponsors this challenge, aligning with its mountaineering and alpine sport focus. Starting April 1, the challenge aims to engage runners in a community-driven fitness goal. I’ve been running for over 10 years, starting with short-distance obstacle races and building enough stamina to complete 50Ks.
Challenge Details and Participation
The challenge requires an average of about 1.33 miles per day. Participants need a Strava account to join. They can access it by navigating the Challenges section on the Strava website or app, searching for “Arc'teryx Run Steady Challenge,” and clicking “Join.” Activities logged on Strava are visible to everyone and count towards the total, fostering a sense of community and accountability.
My Running Strategy
Given the 30-day duration, I’ve devised a weekly schedule to ensure consistency without overexertion. My plan is as follows:
Day | Activity | Distance (miles) |
---|---|---|
Monday | Rest | 0 |
Tuesday | Run | 3 |
Wednesday | Run | 3 |
Thursday | Rest | 0 |
Friday | Run | 4 |
Saturday | Run | 5 |
Sunday | Run | 4 |
This schedule totals 19 miles per week. Over four weeks, that’s 76 miles, exceeding the 40-mile goal. Since 30 days span four weeks and two days, I’ll adjust for the final two days, potentially resting or running lightly if needed.
My Current Progress
Date | Day | Activity | Distance (miles) |
---|---|---|---|
April 1 | 1 | Run | 3 |
April 2 | 2 | Run | 3 |
April 3 | 3 | Rest | 0 |
April 4 | 4 | Run | 4 |
April 5 | 5 | Run | 5 |
