Arc’teryx Acrux TR GTX
Material
The Arc’teryx Acrux TR GTX is a fantastic hiking boot. Its fully waterproof Gore-Tex membrane keeps my feet dry and warm without overheating.
Durable
The boot’s durable, abrasion-resistant TPU overlays and reinforced upper allow the Acrux TR GTX to power through sharp rocks and roots without damage, providing ankle stability. It is easily the toughest hiking boot I own.
Outsole
The Vibram Megagrip outsole provides excellent traction on various surfaces. It easily grips wet rocks, muddy hills, snowy trails, and loose gravel. This very stiff outsole is perfect for rocky accents.
Design
Despite its armor-plated ruggedness, the Acrux TR GTX is surprisingly lightweight, weighing just over 2.9 lbs in size 11.5.
Cushioning
The boot has an EVA midsole that absorbs shock and remains responsive. It also has a ton of cushioning, and each step rocks you forward into your next step, keeping your feet fresh over extended distances and terrain. I noticed this the first time I wore the boot, and after googling, I believe this is what they meant by “energy return.”
Toe Cap
Right in line with the bulletproof nature of this boot, it has a reinforced rubber toe cap that protects against impact from rocks, roots, or other debris.
Fit
The Arc’teryx Acrux TR GTX is on the narrow side for me, but it is designed for a precise, secure fit. Its snug midfoot wrap reduces slippage while providing decent room in the toe box for toe splay. The material is tough but very flexible and does not require a break-in period. I have no complaints about the arch support.
Aesthetic
These are good-looking boots! It’s clean, with understated design features and technical details.
How I use
Hiking
Because of its tank-like build, waterproofing, and cushioning, I use this boot for all hiking adventures that require boots, and I take them on snowboarding trips. It’s been battle-tested in single-digit temps on Northern Michigan terrain, heel deep in snow and crossing streams for miles, and my feet remained warm and dry! I typically travel with one pair of boots, and I appreciate that the material on these cleans up well, so I do not look fresh off the trail on my flight home. When the trail needs a boot but not a BOOT, I hike in the Arc’teryx Vertex.
